ESPN's John Clayton is reporting that the Chiefs and first-round pick Tyson Jackson are finalizing a contract. Clayton is reporting the No. 3 overall pick will be paid $57 million over five years. Clayton reports $31 million of the deal is guaranteed. Jackson is flying to River Falls, Wis. to sign his deal. It should be finalized Friday afternoon. The defensive end from LSU likely won't start practicing until Monday. The Chiefs have a scrimmage Saturday night and are off Sunday. Kansas City started camp last Saturday. While Jackson has missed a large chunk of camp, he should be able to catch up in time to contribute Sept. 13 when the Chiefs open the season. He will likely play at some point in the preseason. Jackson was a solid contributor in Kansas City's offseason program. Jackson is expected to start right away. He is considered to be a good fit for Kansas City's new 3-4 defense. Jackson wasn't known as a great pass rusher (Kansas City's greatest need) in college, but he is a fine run stopper. Because he was a special fit player (not many teams use the 3-4) Jackson may have fallen to Denver at No. 12 had he not been taken by Kansas City. Subscribe to this blog
